Hana Janatova, NCTM

With a degree in Piano Performance from the University of Arizona (1993) and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Utah (2011 ), Hana Janatova has actively taught piano students the art of playing for over a quarter of a century, and holds permanent status as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).

Hana has consistently searched for music that bridges the gap between classical and non – classical listeners. A firm supporter of the arts, Hana believes that education in music and the fine arts is an inherent right and not a privilege. For over thirty years, Hana is actively involved in the music field, from performance and education to arts administration, management, and consulting.

As an educator, Hana served from 1992-1994 as head piano instructor and director of the Tucson Parks and Recreation piano program, offering group piano and music instruction to primarily low - income families.   In 2006, Hana founded the Mundi Project, a 501 (C)(3) organization whose mission is to provide piano education and performance opportunities to all youth along the Wasatch Front. In 2011, she received one of five national Yamaha In-residence Fellowships through the College Music Society for her work on The Mundi Project Ambassador Program.

Since relocating to Salt Lake City in 1994, Hana worked for the Park City International Music Festival, the Children’s Dance Theatre, and Repertory Dance Theater. She served as faculty member of the Utah Conservatory of Music, pianist for the Park City Community Church, performed as a free-lance pianist throughout the Greater Salt Lake area, and served as chairman for the Salt Lake Piano Area Federation of Music Clubs from 2000-2004. In 2002, Hana released her debut recording, Intermezzo, featuring works of Albeniz, Grandados, Nazarath, and Mompou.

Through her Graduate Teaching Assistant award, Hana developed curriculum and helped establish  a four year piano lab program at East High School. Currently, Hana runs a independent piano studio, is a professional consultant for non-profit arts organizations, and serves as the Executive Director for the Visual Art Institute
